Naskir

Naskir is a local guide tasked with retrieving and protecting a young merchant in the canyons of her homeland. But her impulsive nature gets the better of her when a small mysterious creature appears, drawing her away from her duty and into the hunt.

concept

Naskir is part of a larger worldbuilding project that I occasionally develop further.

I’ve always been particularly interested in character and creature design, and this project became my first larger opportunity at FH Salzburg to explore that interest.

For the creature design, I drew inspiration from a combination of cheetah anatomy and snake-like musculature, aiming to create something agile but still adapted to heat.

Production

learning

This was my first project using ZBrush, so much of the process involved trial and error while learning the software.

At the time I didn’t realize that models could be posed later in ZBrush, which led me to sculpt the creature directly in its final pose instead of working with symmetry. Additionally I didn't have a tablet for most of this work, which made teh creation of detail a lot harder.

The heads were created separately, which allowed me to use symmetry for the facial sculpting.

Finalising

After finishing the sculpt in ZBrush, I used remeshing to reduce the polycount and create a workable low-poly version.

The model was then imported into Maya, where displacement maps were used to restore the high-resolution details from the original sculpt.

Through moving lights and detailed camera shots, the final scene highlights both Naskir and her companion and brings the character design into focus.
